Architects Plus is a registered practice and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects.


Architects Plus have a team of experienced designers whom all play a significant role in all projects. Our expertise is diverse in commercial, education, healthcare, residential and public domain design. We pride ourselves on emphasising creativity balanced with the needs of the client and budgetary restraints. Working closely with other industry professionals to deliver buildings that, through considered design, achieve economic, sustainable and efficient solutions.

We offer a professional service from conception to physical completion, guiding you through the process of; engaging co-professionals, authority approvals, tendering, construction and contracts. Graham McDermid

FOUNDING DIRECTOR | NZIA REGISTERED ARCHITECT

Graham has worked in the architectural domain since 1971 and drawing on his 50+ years’ experience, he leads the Architects Plus team. He has worked extensively with clients and developers, to balance creative design versus cash flow parameters. With a solid grasp of the construction industry, and his presence, Graham anchors the overall design direction of the studio while instilling his commitment to providing a quality service and outcome.

Outside of the office Graham enjoys both water and snow skiing with his family. He is the head driver of the Architects Plus motor racing team. Graham and his wife are active members for Habitat for Humanity and have completed many excursions internationally to help some of the less fortunate global communities.

Nikora Jonathan

SENIOR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER

Nikora joined the Architects Plus team in 2011 after operating his own practice completing a variety of design commissions throughout New Zealand. His knowledge and experience in the industry is wide. A driven, creative and widely talented designer attentive to all aspects of a project, its formalities and procedures, big or small. He is meticulous in his work and takes projects from inception to completion, a member of the design team we couldn’t do without.

At home, Nikora is a devoted family man, multi-talented musician and skilled guitarist having performed at local venues. He is a gifted artist and has a love for all sport with a history of representative basketball and rugby, these days he loves a game of golf.

Cam McDermid

Architectural Graduate

After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Christchurch, Cam proceeded to achieve a Masters in Architecture with Honours at the University of Auckland. Joining us during his breaks for further work experience, he has shown a dedication and passion for the art of architecture. Cam brings young and innovative ideas to the studio, with a particular interest in sustainability and heritage conservation. His Master’s thesis was based on the adaption and conservation of the historic Warkworth Cement Works. Additionally, Cam spent 2 years working in Vancouver Canada for renowned architect James K.M. Cheng where he assisted on a diverse range of high-end projects such as ‘First Light’ in Seattle, USA.

In his spare time Cam has created a reputation for being one of the best freeskiers in New Zealand, achieving success at both national and international levels. He is also a highly reputable photographer, filmer and editor in the action sports industry, having his skiing and photos published in a number of magazines worldwide.

Madison Matthews

Interior Designer

After working for an interior design firm in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Maddie fell in love with design and moved to Vancouver to complete her Bachelor of Interior Design, graduating with Honours. She is a textile admirer, vintage treasure hunter, enthusiastic creative and has a real talent for original design approaches. With a developed understanding of how people move and interact with a space, Maddie is very thorough, studying all aspects of functionality, spatial planning and colour theory. Her goal is to improve the quality of life of others, believing that good design is a result of creative conversation, perspective and endless self-expression.

Born in California, Maddie moved to New Zealand 2 years ago. In her spare time Maddie loves to ski and was once a ski instructor in Wanaka, Thredbo and Jackson Hole. Her hobbies range from thrift-store hunting to fly fishing and hiking, taking her dog, Moose, everywhere she goes.
